ubuntu 14.04 x86_64 grib-api python issue

Hello,
I have downloaded and installed the grip-api, grin-api-python, and grin-api-devel debs. However, when I enter python and execute a
from gribapi import *

I get a no module named gribapi.

The grib-api itself appears installed fine as I have also installed an open source wrapper “pygrib”. Pygrib however is giving me incorrect lat lon values and I wanted to verify what I was getting with the python bindings from ECMWF.

After installing the deb I have no files in my /usr/local/lib/python2.7/site-packages/ As I expected from installing the deb. Does the grin-api-python deb install in some other location that I need to add to my python path?
